61st AMC & IHE

The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is organizing its 61st Annual Medical Conference and International Health Exhibition (AMC and IHE), scheduled for February 21-22, 2025, at the Haile Grand in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This event will bring together physicians from across the nation, along with representatives from EMA chapter offices, medical specialty societies, medical schools, the Ministries of Health and Education, sister health professional associations, and partners. Over the course of three days, the conference and exhibition will focus on raising awareness and providing education for attendees. More than 3,000 international and local trade visitors and exhibitors are expected to participate. The International Health Exhibition will serve as a unique platform, offering local and global medical companies and specialized institutions the opportunity to showcase their products and services to a broad medical audience and the general public. It will also provide an avenue for sharing the latest advancements in medical technology and health research.

Presidential Message

Presidential Message On behalf of the executive board, I am delighted to extend our invitation to the 61st EMA annual conference and international exhibition that will be held on February 21 and 22, 2025, at Haile Grand Hotel, Addis Ababa.

Keeping with its tradition of selecting a critical and timely theme for its annual conference, EMA has selected Health Workforce Wellbeing to be the focus of the 61st annual conference. Ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of physicians and other healthcare professionals is key to providing quality healthcare, improving the performance and sustainability of health systems and achieving national and global health development goals. Yet, medical doctors and other health workers face several challenges and threats to their health and well-being including, but not limited to, violence, stress, infection, and poor working and living conditions..

We have curated panel discussions and research paper presentations featuring physicians, medical students, experts, policy makers and researchers to discuss the major challenges and gaps and generate evidence-based actionable recommendations to keep physicians and other healthcare professionals safe, healthy, motivated and productive. I look forward to seeing you all!.

Keynote Speaker

Gregory Fricchione, MD, is Associate Chief of Psychiatry, Director of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine and of the Chester Pierce Division of Global Psychiatry and Co-Director of the McCance Center for Brain Health in the Department of Neurology at Mass General Hospital and the Mind Body Medicine Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He specializes in neuropsychiatry and psychosomatic medicine and for over 40 years has helped care for patients with severe medical, neurological and surgical illnesses. He has published more than 300 peer reviewed publications and has authored or co-authored 6 books including the 2011 Compassion and Healing in Medicine: On the Nature and Uses of Attachment Solutions for Separation Challenges (Johns Hopkins University Press). He is also the medical editor of the Harvard Medical School Special Report on Stress Management. His research interests include study of the catatonic syndrome, the neurophysiology of stress and resilience and how the comparative neurology of brain evolution illuminates our concepts of health and illness and medical caregiving.

The title of his keynote will be: "The Stress to Resilience Ratio and its Importance for the Wellbeing of the Health Workforce”
